How Do I Know If I Have Termites?

Here are a couple main ways you are able to Detect Termites YOURSELF!

Mud Tubes

Typically found on piers, timber cladding and foundations, they are made of soil, timber and saliva formed into small 2cm tubes running across or up the structure.

Bubbling Paint

Seeing your paint look as if it has bubbles or is falling off the timber behind it could be termite damage. They will eat the timber behind and only leave the paint as it’s not so tasty for them

Termite Droppings

Dropping are a key sign there are live termites about, looking similar to coffee grounds or even saw dust built up into small pellets or piles

But unfortunately, even with these methods, termites can still go undetected

The best way to make sure that there are no termites in your home, and to save yourself from hundreds of thousands in damage, is to contact a licensed professional.

What Will A Licensed Professional Do?

A licensed professional will use their expert knowledge and equipment to inspect your home thoroughly and detect Termites before any damage is done.

After they are done, their decision regarding the termite status of your home will be documented and covered under warranty, mitigating the financial risk of any potential future damage!

What Are Treatment Options?

If Termites are detected in the home, or there is high chance they will breach the home there are several treatment options to choose from

  1. Termite Chemical Barrier
  2. Termite Bait Stations
  3. Dusting

We have ordered them from generally most effective to least

They all have a place to treat Termites but for most purposes the chemical barrier is best.

Termite Chemical Barrier

Depending on the size of the home we will use upto 1000L of mixed chemical, it sounds like alot because it is!

When we are applying the termiticide, the most important thing is to get the deepest penetration of chemical around the property with the most chemical sustaining a treated zone around the house.

We will only ever use Termidor or Termidor HE which are the industries best chemicals and also give you 8 years of warranty so you can live stress free!

Termite Bait Station

Designed to attract termites then deliver a slow acting feed to them which is toxic and eliminates the colony.

The most important part of this option is to detect termites and see exactly where they’re nested and feeding to design the station placements best.

Bait stations are thought to be the most cost effective but require higher inspection intervals so you end up paying much more over the 5-8 year period than chemical barriers. That’s not to say they aren’t effective.

Dusting

Dusting is less invasive as it doesn’t require drilling, digging or placing plastic stations in the ground so it has some benefits.

When we detect Termites in a wall the dusting can be great to apply to the mud tubes as it coats the inside of the tubes as the termites walk over it.

There is a risk with this also as they might detect the opening of the mud tubes and close that area off to maintain humidity they need to survive.
